Ford has mentioned it would introduce an all-electric F-150, but little did we know a prototype is well underway. In a new video, Ford not only shows off its electric F-150 prototype but demonstrates it can tow 1.25 million pounds.
Linda Zhang, F-150 chief engineer, drives the F-150 as it tows 10 double-decker rail cars. In a second demonstration, 42 regular F-150s are brought into the rail cars to make the load even heavier. Watch from 2:30 if you want to skip the chit chat in the video, which gives the obvious disclaimer not to try this at home. Ford hasn’t revealed the towing capacity of the electric F-150, nor has it stated exactly when it will arrive, saying only “in the coming years.” It should come after the F-150 hybrid that goes on sale next year.

For 2019, the competition is new with the glitzy, high-tech 2019 Ram 1500 and large 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 all looking to outdo the F-150—especially in high-spec versions with eye-popping price tags.

Ford, as we’ve known for some time now, is building an electric version of the F-150. This makes a ton of sense on nearly every level, though the company took the unusual (?) step recently of trotting out a test version with an exhaust pipe that doesn’t look, let’s say, real.
Your vehicle’s tires have a huge functional impact on its braking, handling and overall ride experience.
83% of drivers aren’t “tire smart” (don’t know how to properly check tire pressure) ~~ Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) 2015 survey.
Since tires are the final extremity of you car that separates you from the road, taking proper care of them is one of the most important safety factors you can master. Here are the top five tire myths that you should be sure you know.
A Tire-Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Ensures That Your Tires Are Always Safe – A TPMS electronically tracks and displays tire pressure via a gauge, pictogram display or a warning light on your vehicle’s dashboard. “These have lulled most drivers into believing that if the warning signal is off, everything is fine,” says Pat Goss…a master mechanic and automotive radio show host. Since a signal is only triggered when tires lose 25 percent of their inflation pressure (aka “dangerously low” tire pressure), you could be driving on tires that are underinflated enough to cause unnecessary wear, waste fuel and in some cases, decrease cornering ability while increasing stopping distances. Goss advises that you should check tire pressure every 30 days the old-fashioned way: manually, with a tire pressure gauge. (Watch the quick how-to video below)
The Correct Tire Pressure Is Listed On The Tire Sidewall – 50% of all drivers believe this is true. But these numbers actually tell you the maximum cold inflation PSI the tire is rated for—not the recommended pressure for your vehicle. The CORRECT information is actually listed on a label inside the vehicle’s driver-side door or in the owner’s manual.
All Cars Come With Spare Tires – approximately one third of all new cars DON’T come with a spare tire in the trunk. Instead, you’ll get a “temporary mobility kit” with a tire sealant and a tire inflator or run-flat tires, says Goss. If your tire is punctured, apply the sealant through the valve stem then use the inflator to re-inflate it, he explains. The downside? If the damage is more severe than a tiny hole (think nail size), the mobility kit probably isn’t going to cut it and you’ll have to be towed. Go check your trunk now, so you’re not surprised in an emergency.
Tire Rotation Should be Done About Once A Year – The correct answer…Tire rotation should be performed every 5,000 to 8,000 miles, which also coincides with the typical oil change recommendation.
Flat Tire While Driving?…Never Continue Driving – “Run-flat tires” — which let you keep driving after a puncture so you can make it to an auto shop—are becoming more popular. “Many manufacturers are using them because the additional cost of four run-flats is less than the cost of a spare tire, wheel and jack,” says Goss. Run-flats vary as to how far they can be driven and at what speed, but generally speaking they can be driven for up to 50 miles at a reduced speed (usually about 50 miles per hour), he explains. You can tell if your car has run-flats by looking inside the driver’s door, in your owner’s manual or checking the tire sidewall for one of the following codes: RFT, DSST, ROF, RFT, EMT, XRP, ZP or ZPS.
Believe it or not…there are already 40 EV (electric vehicle) and plug-in hybrid models that enthusiasts can buy and enjoy right here in the U.S….with alot more coming next year.
FF 91 by Faraday Future
The Los Angeles-based company has had financial difficulties, but so far are still planning to release the FF 91 model in 2019. If successful, the FF 91 could be a show stopper.

Price is still a wild card…rumors of anything from $120,000 to over $300,000 (but not lower) …because Faraday wants to be priced amidst ultra-luxury vehicles like Bentleys.
Byton M-Byte
Featuring a 48-inch curved Shared Experience Display (SED), the Byton M-Byte easily claims the record for world’s largest in-car display for a production automobile, with three content areas that can be controlled through a seven-inch driver tablet and an eight-inch touch pad.
Based in Nanjing, China, Byton has collaborated with Amazon.com’s “Alexa” to develop voice control for the new EV.

In the spirit of the Independent Auto Body Shop…we discovered a man named Rich Benoit…a unique auto mechanic and Youtuber who calls himself the “Doctor Frankenstein of Teslas”.
“We may hear some clicks,” he says, as he prepares to connect the second lead. “We may hear some buzzing. The car may explode. I don’t know what’s gonna happen.” ~ Rich Benoit
In the documentary video above and on his own Youtube channel (below)…Benoit leads us through the scrapyards where he scavenges Tesla parts, the basement where he categorizes them, and an auto body shop that lets him use its equipment. He shows us deep under the hood, where he wrestles with the motors, high-powered batteries and tangles of electronics and cables that make Teslas tick.
The idea of cobbling together salvaged Teslas came to Benoit while shopping for his first used Model S. He quickly became highly motivated by the notion of “right to repair” —the philosophy that manufacturers shouldn’t be allowed to intentionally prevent consumers from repairing their own devices. Massachusetts has the country’s only automotive right to repair law (passed in 2012) that requires auto dealerships to sell repair parts to independent dealers. Benoit says the law helps him a little, but Tesla technically doesn’t have “dealerships” and so he’s had to scavenge for many of his parts. Legislation that would expand right to repair to other electronics has been proposed in a handful of states around the country.
“If you drive around, you’ll see a place that only fixes only Saabs, or they fix only Volvo…Places like that are so important. You have to have these little mom and pop shops that know these cars well, that’ll fix it for a decent price, so that the manufacturer can’t monopolize the repair.” ~ Rich Benoit
